Nellie H. Anderson, age 80
Nellie H. Anderson, age 80, of rural Lowry, died Thursday, March 31, 2016, at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, MN surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday April 7th at Glenwood United Parish, with Pastor Laura Nordstrom officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home in Glenwood, and will continue at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Reno Mission Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Nellie Husmann, the daughter of Heinie and Anna (Johnson) Husmann was born August 30, 1935 in Lyon County, Iowa. Nellie grew up in Iowa and attended country school until her family moved to a farm near Villard in 1944. She attended Villard Elementary and High School and later received her GED certificate in the 70’s.
On October 6, 1956 she was united in marriage to Archie Anderson at the 1st Baptist Church in Glenwood. Nellie and Archie made their home on a farm in Reno Township and were blessed with three children. They continued to reside on the farm in rural Lowry where they raised their children. Nellie and Archie moved to Starbuck in 2005, until 2011 when they returned to live on the farm with their son Paul. Nellie and Archie shared 59 years of marriage. After working 25 years at the Glenwood Hospital, Nellie went to further her education at the Alexandria Technical College and graduated in 1980 from the Practical Nursing program. After graduation Nellie worked at Lakeview Care Center and then the Glacial Ridge Health System in homecare and hospice. After retiring from active nursing, she continued working as a hospice volunteer.
Nellie enjoyed baking, especially cookies and lefse, sewing, quilting, embroidery and other crafts, gardening and flowers. She was also very active in the United Parish, serving as Treasurer for the United Parish Women and serving on many different committees. She served as a Lay Minister in the United Methodist Church, speaking at many smaller congregations in the area. Nellie especially enjoyed the company of her 6 sisters and their regular gatherings. Nellie will be remembered as a caring, compassionate caretaker, her whole life. She passed away March 31, 2016 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.
She is survived by her husband, Archie Anderson of Starbuck; children, Darrell (Susie) Anderson of Lindstrom, MN, Marcia (Ross Williams) Anderson of Grand Rapids, MN and Paul Anderson (special friend, Kelly Trainor) of Lowry; 8 grandchildren; siblings, Janet Mostad of Sauk Center, Harry (Eva) Husmann of Michigan, Andy (Donna) Husmann of Michigan, Anna (Don) Erickson of New Brighton, MN, Louis Husmann of Clearwater, MN, Mavis Maanum of Glenwood, Fred Husmann of Springfield, IL, Helen (Dan) Lindsay of Crosby, ND, David (Marilyn) Husmann of Apple Valley, MN, Grace (Dave) Kvam of Marinette, WI, Paul (Cora) Husmann of Cold Spring, MN and Ruth Husmann of Glenwood, MN; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Nellie is preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, daughter-in-law, Leslie Anderson; brothers-in-law, Robert Mostad and Vern Maanum; and sisters-in-law, Joy Husmann and Elaine Husmann.
