Mae Lundblad Peterson, 83

Mae Lundblad Peterson, 83, died Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at Covenant Village in Golden Valley.

Mae Jeannette was born on May 6, 1932, the second of 10 children born to Ralph and Myrtle (Rosengren) Lundblad. She was born on the family farm near Farwell, and she attended a one-room country school nearby for her elementary education. She was baptized and confi rmed at the Ben Wade Covenant Church. Mae graduated from high school in Glenwood. She attended Bethel College and the University of Minnesota, receiving her Bachelor of Science and master’s degrees in special education. She was licensed to teach mentally, visually and physically handicapped children. Mae taught at Webster School, Calhoun School and Michael Dowling Memorial School, all in Minneapolis. Mae was a teacher, leader and administrator in special education her entire working career.

Mae’s recognition in special education was noted by her selection by the Minnesota Federation of Teachers to receive the Pennel Award in 1983. In 1986 Mae was featured on "WCCO Radio Good Neighbor" for her 30 years of devotion serving Minneapolis Public School including over 28 years working with special education students.

Mae married Gail "Pete" Peterson on Aug. 15,1969, in Ankeny, Iowa, and the couple made their home in Minneapolis. Pete was also an elementary teacher in the Minneapolis school system. They had been married 21 years at the time of his death in 1990.

Mae loved to travel, and in retirement, she and Pete traveled within the United States and worldwide. Her travels included trips to every continent except Antarctica.

Most important of all was Mae’s personal faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was always faithful and very active in her church, wherever she lived. Mae was the matriarch of her family, and she was very dedicated to each person. She was infl uential in organizing and planning yearly family reunions.

Mae died on April 5, 2016, at Covenant Village in Golden Valley. Funeral services were held April 18 at Redeemer Covenant Church in Brooklyn Park with interment at Fort Snelling. Honorary pallbearers were Mae’s nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to Lowry Community Covenant Church or Redeemer Covenant Church..

Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Myrtle Lundblad; husband, Gail "Pete" Peterson; brothers, LeRoy and Ray Lundblad; and sister-in-law, Judy Lundblad.

She is survived by sisters, Ruth (Earl) Ahlquist and Dorothy (Rich) Thorson; sister-inlaw, Rose Ann Lundblad; brothers, Glen (Ethel), Paul (Sandra), Kenneth (Gloria), Dale (Susan) and Bruce (Kelly); stepchildren, Mary Gail Savik, Richa Eland, Sharon Meister and Greg Peterson; stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.
