Kenneth A. Holtberg, 84


Kenneth Holtberg, 84, of Glenwood, died Monday, October 11, 2010, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood with the Rev. Krista Lee officiating. Interment will be in Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Kenneth Alexander Holtberg, the son of Arnie and Hilma (Anderson) Holtberg, was born on June 1, 1926, in Lowry. Kenneth grew up in Lowry where he attended country school. On August 14, 1944, Ken entered the United States Marine Corps. He was stationed in the Pacific area, served on Iwo Jima and in China. Ken was honorably discharged on August 15, 1946.

Kenneth was employed with the Soo Line Railroad for over 40 years. He was a member of the Glenwood American Legion Post #187 for over 50 years and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Ken enjoyed taxidermy, gun smithing and in his younger years hunting and fishing.

Kenneth is survived by his five children, Mark (Cleo) Holtberg of Glenwood, Laveda (Alan) Schmitz of Alexandria, Paul (Chloe) Holtberg of Glenwood, Todd (Sandy) Holtberg of Willmar and Kevin (Bobbi) Holtberg of Waconia; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion in 2003; and his only sibling, a brother Jim in 2008.
