Kenneth G. Leverson, 83

Funeral services for Kenneth Gene Leverson of Starbuck were held Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. Burial was in Fron Lutheran Cemetery, rural Starbuck.

Kenneth Gene Leverson, son of Samuel and Thora (Jensen) Leverson, was born on February 4, 1927, in Jackson. He grew up and began his schooling in Sherburn, graduating from Sherburn High School. Following his schooling, Kenneth enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served in WWII in the Pacific Theater and later in the Korean War. In 1951, he received an honorable discharge. On October 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Alice Jean Johnson at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Lowry, where they farmed and began raising their children. Kenny also owned and operated the Skelly Service Stations in Lowry. Kenny and Alice moved to Starbuck in 1966. Kenny worked as a carpenter with his brother, Orville out of the Starbuck Lumber Yard and ran a saw sharpening service in his later years. Alice died on June 1, 2008. Kenny continued to live in Starbuck until the time of his death.

Kenny was a member of Fron Lutheran Church in Starbuck. He served as past commander of the American Legion Post 253 in Lowry and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Post 4582 in Starbuck. He enjoyed reading, woodworking and playing cribbage. He was a very loving and proud grandfather and father. Kenneth died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at his home in Starbuck, having lived to reach the age of 83 years.

He is survived by his four children, Karen Leverson of New Hope, Janice (Robert) Danielson of Glenwood, Nora Leverson of New Hope and Jay Leverson of Starbuck; three grandchildren, Rob Danielson, Jessica Danielson and Jacquelyn Danielson and fiancé, Quinn Nohl; one brother, Harold “Rusty” (Marcia) Leverson of Fairmont; and two sisters-in-law, Luella Leverson of Kensington and Leone Leverson of Kallspell, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two brothers, Vernon Leverson and Orville Leverson; and one sister, Lucille Leverson Wingert. Pallbearers for the service were Jay Kenneth Leverson, Bob Danielson, Mark Leverson, Jerry Leverson, Darrell Leverson and Bruce Leverson. Honorary pallbearers were Curtis Leverson, Rick Leverson, Eric Leverson, Mike Leverson and Paul Leverson. Shari Opdahl served as organist for the service with Mike Leverson serving as soloist. Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck was in charge of the arrangements.
