Evelyn B. Hollenbeck, 92

Evelyn Hollenbeck, 92, of Lowry, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at her home in Lowry.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lowry with Pastor Elaine Leone officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Evelyn Belle Hollenbeck, daughter of Allie and Meda (Bell) Olsen, was born on July 16, 1917, in Donnelly Township. She grew up in the Donnelly and Morris area where she attended school.

On March 10, 1936, Evelyn was united in marriage to Paul Hollenbeck in Morris. This marriage was blessed with five children. The couple made their home on a farm near Cyrus. In 1944, they moved to a farm near Lowry until 1976, when they moved into Lowry. Evelyn and Paul shared 63 years of marriage before Paul passed away in 1999.

Evelyn was a domestic engineer her whole life. She kept her house and lovingly took care of her children and husband. After her children were grown, Evelyn began working in the laundry department at Lakeview Good Samaritan Center in Glenwood for fi ve years. She then went on to work at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in the laundry department for 25 years.

She belonged to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lowry, where she was active in the ladies auxiliary and her circle. She enjoyed shopping, having coffee, laughing and talking on the phone. Evelyn especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She passed away peacefully at home on March 25, 2010, surrounded by her family. She will be remembered for her generosity, spunky and feisty attitude and her love of having fun.

Evelyn is survived by her children, Kathryn “Pinky” (Robert) Manning of Zimmerman, Ralph “Buzz” (Barbara) Hollenbeck of Estes Park, Colo., Robert “Boop” (Fran) Hollenbeck of Columbia Heights, Patricia “Pat” (Duane) Larson of Venice, Fla., and Paula “Kappy” (Tim) Marshall of Johnstown, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Vesta Wachs of Huntsville, Ala., and Suzanne Ziemer of Hoffman; many nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Johnnie Olsen; two sisters, Gayle Schultz and infant sister, Mary Louise Olsen; as well as an infant granddaughter, Connie.

In lieu of flowers memorial are preferred to the Pope County Hospice.
