Donald L. Hoplin, 93

Donald L. Hoplin, age 93 of Glenwood, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Chapel in Glenwood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in the Reno Mission Cemetery in rural Lowry.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home Glenwood.

Donald Llewellyn Hoplin, known to many as “Buddy”, the son of Ole and Esther Nelson Hoplin, was born on June 12, 1922 in Lowry, Minnesota. He graduated from Glenwood high school in 1941 and attended Augsburg College, in Minneapolis, MN. Donald enlisted in the Navy in 1943, joining his three brothers to serve the nation in WWII, as a Shipfitter Third Class on the aircraft carrier USS Lake Champlain. He was united in marriage to Doris Elizabeth Robieson on May 29, 1948 in Minneapolis.  They lived in Minneapolis and Brandon, but lived the majority of their life together in Glenwood.  Donald was a partner, along with his brother Oliver, of Hoplin Funeral Home in Glenwood for more than 30 years.  

Donald traveled the world.  He loved to hike, garden, read, restore antique furniture, and spend time with family.  Donald died on Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood, having lived to the age of 93 years.  He will be remembered for his deep love of family, and kindness and caring to all whom he encountered.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, son Mark Donald Hoplin of Glenwood and his wife Lesley. His granddaughter is Melissa Hoover, married to Douglas. Their children are Nicholas and Elaina. His eldest grandson is Eric Donald Hoplin, married to Nicole. Their children are Eric Donald Jr., Thatcher, and Spencer. His youngest grandson is Nels Hoplin, married to Kris. Their children are Alexandra and Zoe. His sisters are Elise Anderson and Miriam (Snella) Lundin.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Esther Hoplin; brothers, Oliver, Glenn, Paul, and sister, Ruth.
