Bertrand (Bert) McIver, 84
Bert was born and raised in rural Minnesota. He grew up in a Christian home with a family who loved and served the Lord. His father, a physician, and his mother, a registered nurse, were of needed service to the rural community.
After high school and college, Bert served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. Upon completion of his army service he returned to finish college at the University of Minnesota. He was then employed by Nielsen Co., bringing him to NY State and several eastern states. On March 17, 1958 he began employment with the Equifax Co. in NY City and the Long Island area. He retired from this company in September of 1989.
In May, 1959 Bert married Clara Besserer in Huntington, CT. Their honeymoon was spent in Germany to meet his in-laws and new relatives. This started a quest for international travels taking them to the Orient, Africa, Australia, New Zealand and South America.
After retirement the McIvers moved to Palm Bay, Florida and spent their summers at his hometown of Lowry, Minnesota. In November, 2011, they moved to Buena Vida Estates in West Melbourne. Bert was an active member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Indialantic and he did volunteer work with Hospice of Health First during his retirement years.
Since February of 2014 Bert was unable to walk without assistance and resided at West Melbourne Health and Rehab near Buena Vida. He became seriously ill on August 29th and died in the ICU at Holmes Regional Medical Center on September 2nd.
Bert was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife Clara McIver, brothers Daniel and Paul, sisters Jessie (Pridgen) and Beth (Hadley,) in addition to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins.
